Ilaria Alpi

Reporter of Tg3 - RAI since 1990, Ilaria Alpi was killed in Mogadishu, March the 20th 1994, together with the cameraman Miran Hrovatin. A sentence asserts that Ilaria and Miran were killed by a commando who had a precise task: to reduce that journalist to silence.

Her note-books disappeared, as some of Miran's videos.

Since that 20th of March, more than nine years have passed, but we do not still know the truth: the truth on the heading offs, the non-fulfilments, the concealments that accompanied inquiries.
To maintain lives these questions it is, at this point, civil engagement.
That is why the Ilaria Alpi Award will go on posing them, dedicating an evening to the Alpi case, so that nothing of what Ilaria died for is lost.

Ilaria Alpi carried out her profession with rare dedication and sense of ethics. The Award was instituted in order to recognise and give credit to the civil and social commitment of television programming dealing with topics of peace and solidarity and in order to better understand the complexity of the events and the world which surrounds us. Finally, its aim is to reveal the truth.
